Michigan Attorneys Providing Excellence in Estate Planning and Elder Care

What to Know When Considering Facilities & How You Can Prepare

On this episode of Advice From Your Advocates Podcast, Bob sat down with Amy Leep, Founder of Comply Health Services, LLC which serves various senior living facilities in training capacities, observational studies for compliance approvals, and can help with leadership staffing for organizations. Amy personally has been in the elder care industry for over 25 years and founded this company after working through the pandemic in a dual role at a facility where she was both the Nursing Home Administrator and the Director of Nursing. While executing both roles during an extremely challenging time in healthcare, Amy saw the need for an organization that could help senior living facilities through the challenges they face in maintaining staff and state-mandated requirements to meet compliance needs.

Amy and Bob discuss the value and variety of the services she can provide through her company and skillset. Amy can cover anywhere but most recently, opened a nurse aid training program that is focused in Michigan.

Beyond this program, some of the training that she provides to facilities are geared around effective communication and empathy skills. For example, how do we as elder care professionals actively listen to our elder's needs, yet also maintain our own self-awareness as to what may trigger us in the process? Amy also helps care professionals with training on how to deal with conflict while maintaining empathetic communication and behavior. Although it may be presumed in this industry that all professionals are naturally empathetic, there is still training that can be useful for the various generations that help staff a care facility.

In the episode, we also dive into the importance of person-centered care, which is intended for us to learn about the individual we are helping and what techniques will work best for them. Amy helps organizations with this by studying a facility and identifying what policies may or may not be in place for people with specific impairments to ensure that each organization has things in place to support residents with various types of behaviors or needs. It is crucial for facilities, and personnel at them, to be conscious of the types of disease that can affect each elder they serve and maintain specific skillsets and practices to establish trust within their center.

Comply Health Services is unique in that it can provide educational training and identify opportunities within a facility for improvement for continued betterment. In addition to both of those services, Amy can also help with leadership staffing fulfillment. Some of the roles she can help fulfill are Directors of Nursing for long term care facilities, MDS Coordinators, and Unit Managers. When Amy takes on a facility, she helps to work through barriers to make improvements toward better outcomes for the facility and the patients they serve.
